Perspectives: Regulators Reimagine

Accidentally Podcast: Kids Chance: Educating the Children of Injured Workers
In recognition of Kids' Chance Awareness Week, November 14-18, November's "Accidentally" podcast features an interview with Suzanne Emmet, current board member and past president of Kids' Chance of America. Speaking with Jennifer Wolf Horejsh, IAIABC Executive Director, Ms. Emmet discusses how Kids' Chance gives children the chance to pursue their dreams through educational scholarships following the hardship of a parent's workplace injury or death.
The podcast not only touches on the gifts that Kids' Chance gives to the scholarship recipients, but also the profound personal and professional impact it has on those who are involved with Kids' Chance, including Ms. Emmet.
During the IAIABC's National Conversation on the Future of Workers' Compensation at the IAIABC 102nd Convention, attendees dissected the goals and objectives of workers' compensation systems including benefit adequacy, coverage, and timely return to work.
On September 29 at its 102nd Convention, members elected the 2016-2017 IAIABC Board of Directors, the governing body of the Association. The Board of Directors is comprised of leaders from twelve jurisdictional agencies and two ex-officio members.
IAIABC President R.D. Maynard recognized eight individuals at the IAIABC 102nd Convention for their commitment and dedication to improving workers' compensation and their service to the IAIABC.
The US Department of Labor released a report on October 5, 2016 stating the need to explore policy issues such as increasing federal oversight of workers' compensation; strengthening the linkage between injury and illness prevention; long-term management of worker disabilities; and whether to update coordination between Medicare, SSDI, and workers' compensation.
The IAIABC Foundations of Workers' Compensation Administration Program has concluded, awarding eleven participants with certificates of completion. Foundations provides comprehensive education in workers’ compensation policy and administration to jurisdictional agency staff.
