Electronic Data Interchange
Hello and welcome to the IAIABC Electronic Data Interchange Project!
The goal for EDI in workers’ compensation is the seamless processing of information from its initial reporting source, whether that is the employer, insurance company, claimant or medical provider, to a jurisdiction.
IAIABC EDI standards cover the transmission of Claims, Proof of Coverage, and Medical Bill Payment information through electronic reporting. The standards are developed and maintained through a consensus process that brings together representatives from jurisdictions, claim administrators, vendors, and others interested in participating. Learn more about the EDI Project.
The mission of the IAIABC EDI Project is to:
- To promote the advantages of exchanging the data between participant systems;
- To promote/recommend business and data interchange objectives;
- To assist participants to identify business data requirements;
- To establish data interchange standards;
- To provide a structure to accomplish these purposes.
If you are interested in participating in the standard setting process, we encourage you to become an IAIABC EDI Member. Funds from EDI Membership are earmarked to support the EDI Project. EDI Members make it possible to maintain and distribute EDI Manuals, maintain current and archival information on the EDI website, provide onsite consultation regarding EDI technical and procedural problems, and much more.
The IAIABC Development Committees have developed Implementation Guides to:
1. Assist jurisdictions, carriers, vendors, and service providers in developing standard workers' compensation electronic reporting;
2. Establish standard trading partner requirements;
3. Encourage implementation of electronic reporting based on industry standards.

EDI Committees are made up of representatives from jurisdictions, providers, vendors, and other stakeholder who help develop, implement, and promote the use of voluntary consensus standards for EDI.
Through fun, activity-based learning experiences, EDI Training provides beginning to advanced instruction on how the IAIABC's EDI Standard Products are developed, used, and implemented.
A number of fundamental principles guide the IAIABC EDI Program; this page is where you can learn about the policies and procedures that support this program.
All IAIABC EDI standards are developed and maintained by the EDI Committees. The Issue Resolution process is the method for making changes to a standard, and a detailed explanation of the Issue Resolution Request (IRR) process (adopted by the EDI Council on April 23, 2010) is found on the EDI Policy and Foundational Documents page. Each committee's web page also includes a copy of the form that is used to submit IRRs.
