IAIABC: Please provide a description of your organization.

Steve Junker, Chief Information Officer, accūrō Solutions: accūrō Solutions is a national technology company, first and foremost, that happens to also specialize in comprehensive medical bill review and payment solutions for the property and casualty industry. accūrō has built a reputation for its experienced staff and innovative technology, aiming to improve operational efficiency, streamline workflows from mailroom to payment, and enhance the overall client experience.

accūrō Solutions was founded in 2020, employs 90 individuals across 15 states, and provides services nationwide. We are a virtual company but also have locations in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and now in Des Moines, Iowa, after acquiring Splashlight Solutions earlier this year.

IAIABC: How does your organization serve the workers’ compensation industry?

SJ: Founded and managed by industry veterans with over 150 years of workers’ compensation experience, accūrō Solutions is aiming to tackle common pain points of the industry – poor customer support, outdated technology, and inefficiencies in workflows.

accūrō Solutions is modernizing the workers’ compensation industry as you know it.  We facilitate end-to-end medical payment processes with cutting-edge technology, and our management team has a vast understanding of the P&C industry, leading to optimal service delivery, efficiencies, and outcomes.

IAIABC: What do you see as some of the major challenges the industry is facing, and how can we as a community address them?

SJ: We have seen many payors struggle with jurisdictional compliance with respect to meeting the required elements of e-Billing (acknowledgements, etc.) as well as the understanding of the complicated workflows that e-Bills can take. Clearly, e-Billing and jurisdictional compliance initiatives benefit both payors and providers, and it is in all of our interest to see these challenges solved.

We can address these challenges as a community by providing excellent communication, timely adoption of regulatory protocols, and the use of technology to simplify the complexities of the process. accūrō Solutions seeks to do that by working to educate our clients, and facilitate conversations between our clients, clearinghouses, and providers to ensure that everyone’s needs are met.

IAIABC: Are there any projects/programs/initiatives going on at your organization that you are particularly excited or enthusiastic about?

SJ: We have been working with our clients to ensure jurisdictional compliance, especially in the areas of acknowledgement of e-Bills in California specifically for the resolution of the end-to-end process. We assisted our payor clients in California to substantially increase compliance rates which now exceed 98% (across all provider organizations) since implementing our program.

IAIABC: Why is your organization a member of the IAIABC? What would you tell others about the benefits of membership?

SJ: Given the breadth and depth of our industry knowledge, with organizations large and small, we believe that it is important to promote, direct, and involve ourselves in conversations surrounding compliance. We advocate for all voices to be heard, regardless of state, company size, or business interest, to ensure all individuals’ opinions are accounted for when making jurisdictional compliance decisions.
