Overview

The International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC) is proudly hosting a virtual judicial program with the National Association of Workers’ Compensation Judiciary (NAWCJ) and College of Workers' Compensation Lawyers (CWCL) on Tuesday, September 21 and Wednesday, September 22, 2021. 

Register to hear presentations on the use of interpreters, judicial decorum, and bias in decision making and engage in discussion with other attendees and instructors on these topics.

Participants will also be invited to join the IAIABC’s Dispute Resolutions Committee meeting on Wednesday, September 21st to continue the discussion and hear a spotlight presentation on the dispute resolution system in Washington State.

Who Should Attend?

This professional development opportunity may be of particular interest to those individuals involved directly in the dispute resolution process in their jurisdiction.

Continuing Legal Education

The program will be eligible for continuing legal education credits. Please indicate which state you are seeking CLE in during the registration process so the IAIABC can get pre-approval where necessary.

10:30 AM - 11:30 AM Effective Use of Interpreters in Workers' Compensation Hearings As America diversifies, interpreters have become more important. An ALJ and attorneys representing both employees and employers will provide their distinct perspectives on the challenges that languages, cultures and interpreters present in the workers’ compensation forum.
11:45 AM - 12:45 PM Judicial Decorum This panel discussion focuses on appropriate and ethical behavior in the courtroom as participants watch a video created by the Tennessee Bureau of Workers' Compensation.
12:45 PM - 1:30 PM Lunch Break
1:30 PM - 3:30 PM What, me? Biased?! Bias in decision making and tools to address everyday bias. Presentation and guided discussion.
